Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I perform a correct breath check?
To get consistent app feedback:
  • Sit straight and take a comfortable breath.
  • Hold your phone about 30–40 cm away from your face (approximately arm's length) to prevent audio distortion/clipping.
  • Exhale toward the bottom microphone with a steady sound until the app check finishes.
2. The app rejected my recording as "Exhale too short". What should I do?
This warning appears if the recording duration or the detected breath signal was too brief. Please make sure you exhale continuously until the app check finishes.
3. The results screen says "No sound detected". How can I fix this?
Make sure you are blowing directly in the direction of the device's bottom microphone. Ensure you aren't covering the microphone port with your fingers or a case, and that you are in a quiet room with minimal background noise.
4. Why does the app alert "Analysis Aborted" (Clipping)?
If you blow too close to the microphone, the sound signal saturates (clips), so the app cannot read the audio cleanly. Keep the device 30-40 cm away and exhale steadily without shouting or vocalizing.
5. Is Inhale a health test or professional device?
No. Inhale is an informational breath-practice companion for personal wellness use. It is not intended to evaluate, predict, prevent, manage, or guide decisions about any health condition. For health concerns, contact a qualified professional.

Sources & Methodology

Inhale shows app-defined informational breath pattern indices derived from the sound pattern of a recording. These indices are internal calculations for comparison over time. The app does not use clinical reference ranges and does not provide medical decisions.

General information about breathing difficulty is available from MedlinePlus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine: https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/003075.htm

Troubleshooting App Access

Microphone Access: If you accidentally denied microphone access during setup, go to your phone's Settings -> Inhale -> Toggle Microphone Access ON. Microphone access is used only to record and process the breath sound pattern on your device.
